Lola's Story
Lola Sophia was a miniature Australian Shepherd who stole our hearts and ran our lives for over 14 years. She was so much more than a dog to us. She was our family, my soulmate, and truly one in a million.
Lola was the pillar of health her entire life, so when she was diagnosed with Transitional Cell Carcinoma (TCC) in 2021, it shook us to our core.
No amount of time would have ever been enough, but Lola gave us absolutely everything she had and then some. She battled her disease for nearly 2.5 years and was an absolute force, far surpassing every odd and barely slowing down until the end. We always said, if you didn't know she had cancer, you'd never know she had cancer.
In January 2024, we lost Lola due to complications from her disease. Saying goodbye to her was one of the hardest days of our lives, and as we grappled with what life looked like without her, we were determined to keep her name and story alive in someway that created a positive output.
To honor her, we created The Lola Sophia Project, a nonprofit that works directly with Penn Vet to help fund canine cancer clinical research, with a special focus on TCC.
Lola changed our lives in such a profound way, and we hope to change so many more in her honor.
How are funds used?
The proceeds from The Lola Sophia Project will be donated to Ryan Veterinary Hospital | Penn Vet’s Clinical Oncology service at the School of Veterinary Medicine to advance clinical research efforts in canine cancer.
The Oncology team at Penn Vet fought alongside us every step of Lola's cancer journey and showed her (and us) so much love and compassion. We couldn't think of a better organization to support to advance canine cancer care.
